The Natural History Museum operates as one of the world's leading scientific institutions, housing 80 million specimens and attracting 5 million visitors annually to its iconic South Kensington building. From dinosaur skeletons and sparkling gems to interactive galleries and temporary exhibitions, the Museum offers something for everyone while advancing our understanding of the natural world through cutting-edge research.
Visitors can explore everything from the famous Diplodocus cast in Hintze Hall to the Minerals Gallery, viewing the latest scientific breakthroughs, and engage with hands-on activities that bring science to life. The Museum's 300 scientists work behind the scenes studying climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainable solutions, making discoveries that help protect our planet's future.
The Museum declared a planetary emergency, becoming one of the first museums globally to set a science-based carbon reduction target aligned with the Paris Climate Agreement, driving towards net zero emissions by 2035 as part of its Sustainable by Nature plan. Beyond its operational sustainability, the Museum uses its enormous global reach and influence to create advocates for the planet, inspiring and empowering everyone to make a difference for nature.
